It's Still Doctor Who to Me

So I made another Doctor Who music video. This one is all of Doctor Who, and features all 13 Doctors accordingly. Song is "Stronger" (What Doesn't Kill You) by Kelly Clarkson. All rights to the BBC, etc.

Doctor Who Big Finish Audios Infographic

So I'm working on listening to a bunch of Big Finish Doctor Who audio stories-- basically the original actors from the classic Doctor Who years recording audio books of new adventures. There's something called a "main range," which is the "original" and central series of audios, though they're not really consecutive. There's also a huge amount of spin-offs, some quite long (Bernice Summerfield) and others short (I, Davros). It took me quite a time reading the wikipedia page on the subject to figure out what was going on, so I decided to make a visual guide to the adventures. The information is off of wikipedia, but simplified and hopefully more understandable. Adventures are color-coded by Doctor. All the little graphics are mine, the main background image is not. If anyone finds any mistakes or errors in typing or labeling, please point them out in the comments so I can fix them. :-)

Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Food

So for the 50th Anniversary of "Doctor Who" I went the whole nine yards and made a pasta salad and tons of desserts!

Firstly, the salad is a bowtie pasta salad from here. I used provolone cheese, green peppers, pepperoni, cherry tomato halves, and zesty Italian dressing.

Next I made some standard cut-out cookies. There's the eleven doctors, John Hurt's Doctor, and a guess at what Twelve's costume will look like. As you can see, John Hurt's Doctor was wounded in the Time War after falling from the counter :-(. I'm aware some of the details are off: Ten should have converse and the colors on Six's coat are wrong, but it was getting late and I was tired.

I also made some Seal of Rassilon cookies, which are harder to frost than they look.

Easier to make are the Gallifreyan writing cookies, which say "Fifty Years of Doctor Who" in Gallifreyan, using the method here.

Then I made some chocolate cupcakes. The Dalek designs and a printable pdf are available here.

I frosted the rest of the cupcakes and made them the space-time vortex. I put some half chocolate TARDISes on the tops of some of them.

I also made some ice cubes from the same tray. EX-TER-MIN-ATE!

And of course there's fish fingers and custard. The custard is just regular vanilla pudding, but the fish fingers are an ingenious cookie recipe available here.

Peladon Digital Art

So it's been a while and I finally finished my drawing of King Peladon! He's a secondary character in the Classic Doctor Who episode "The Curse of Peladon." The Doctor (Three) arrives on the planet Peladon with his companion Jo, and, with the help of King Peladon, prevents a rebel overthrow and allows Peladon (the planet) to be admitted to the Galactic Federation. King Peladon is played by the excellent David Troughton (son of Patrick Troughton).

The piece is done digitally, using Corel Photo-Paint X5. It took several months of on-and-off work, but I think it turned out alright! Most of it was done using a stylus and tablet, and there's some minor textures digitally added to the background. There's also a bit of VanGogh style in the torches. :-)

Doctor Who Playing Cards

You may remember that a while ago I posted this, a sneak preview of my Doctor Who playing cards, which I have now finished! The four suits are: the sonic screwdriver (10's), the Seal of Rassilon, a dalek, and a weeping angel. 4 colors: blue, green, red, and orange. Face cards have an extra gold stripe denoting them as such. The Jokers are the first and last faces of the Master (Roger Delgado and John Simm, respectively). The back of the cards sport the TARDIS, the Seal of Rassilon, and Gallifreyan text (using the method here). The Gallifreyan reads (in various places) "bad wolf" "bigger on the inside" "gallifrey" and "kasterborous".

As an update (2-15), I have now made a second set of cards. Both sets feature Doctors One through Eleven on cards Ace-Jack. The original set, however, features Idris as the Queen and the Brigadier as the King, and the new set has Twelve (Capaldi) on the Queen and the TARDIS on the King. Otherwise the sets are identical. The original set is now discontinued.

A deck (Set 2, with the slight modification of Michelle Gomez on the second Joker instead of John Simm, as the newest Master/Missy) is $12 + shipping. Doctor Who Ukrainian Eggs

This Easter I made some Ukrainian eggs, as I usually do. These eggs are hollow, their insides having been blown out. Melted wax is then applied using a kiska, a sort of funnel attached to a handle. They are then dipped in dye, and the part protected by the wax remains the original color. 

Naturally, I themed mine on "Doctor Who". The TARDIS one on the left, in the picture shown below, I made last year; the one on the right is this year's product, and features the Seal of Rassilon.

Adric's Star

Hello! Here's a pic I just finished in CorelDraw PhotoPaint. It's Adric's star. Adric was the Fifth Doctor's companion, and also one of the few companions to die (permanently) during the show's run. 

To explain the significance of the star, it was a badge that Adric wore that he had received in recognition of mathematical excellence. In "Earthshock" the Doctor and co. faced the Cybermen, whose weakness was gold. Adric's star was made of gold, so he gave it to the Doctor. The Doctor crushed the star while defeating the Cybermen and the day was saved, leaving the Doctor and co. (minus Adric) in the TARDIS. Adric had remained on board the spaceship (where the episode largely took place) trying to crack the Cybermen's code. The Doctor then planned on rescuing Adric from the spaceship, which was hurtling towards prehistoric Earth, but the TARDIS controls had been damaged and he was not able to dematerialize. The spaceship crashes into Earth and becomes the meteorite that wiped out the dinosaurs. The credits roll silently, with Adric's broken star as the backdrop.

Doctor Who Wallpapers

I came up with a whole new selection of Doctor Who wallpapers for my desktop...here's two that I had to tweak a little to fit on my screen.

Companions' Departures on Doctor Who

With "The Angels Take Manhattan" in mind, I made up this pie chart showing how companions have left the Doctor's care. I included companions from the classic and new series, and categorized them as best I could, using their final departures as their method of departure, ignoring any return visits. But more of that later.

Obviously this is going to vary slightly depending on how the companions are categorized, what constitutes a "companion," etc, etc, etc. This is the best I can figure, though. At worst it's a vaguely correct representation of percentages. :-)

Gallifreyan Books and Bookends

A selection of books that I figured the Doctor might have, with Gallifreyan bookends. I made it using Corel PhotoPaint, trying to figure out brush types, etc. No reference (except for book names), entirely digital, no scanning involved. The books are as follows:

Black Orchid (by George Cranleigh): the Fifth Doctor received this book as a gift at the end of "Black
        Orchid".
Book of Rassilon: Initially I was going to do the book the Professor lost in "Shada" (4th Doctor), but by the
        time I had looked up the actual name, I'd already given it this name. And every Time Lord needs
        something "... of Rassilon"!
TARDIS Journal: the one Eleven uses to record his and River's adventures.
The New Universe: these three I entirely invented, seemed like he might have a couple spacey books on
        hand from his University days that he'd forgotten to throw away.
Journal of Impossible Things: not the one the chameleon-arched Ten writes, but rather the one that Joan
        Redfern's great-granddaughter publishes in The End of Time, one of which Ten buys and gets signed.
The Complete Poetry of John Milton: according to the novelization of "Logopolis", Four gives Adric this
        book to read while he's busy (fiddling with the TARDIS, etc.)
Flight in the Space/Time Vortex (by Romanaveractalunda): another one I made up, just seemed like
        Romana (companion of Four) would write some technical book like that. :-)
